VNUS Closure Austin

vnus1.jpg
VNUS Closure is a minimally invasive procedure performed at our Austin, Texas practice, All In Veins, to treat Saphenous Varicose Veins and venous reflux, a condition that can cause unsightly varicose veins and associated pain, swelling and fatigue. This is an ablative (destructive) type of procedure. Radiofrequency energy is used to treat superficial and perforator veins. Venous reflux or venous insufficiency develops when the valves that usually keep blood flowing from the skin to the muscle become damaged or diseased. Radiofrequency Ablation is a less invasive procedure than the traditional vein stripping and recovery time is faster with smaller incision. Also, this procedure is an effective solution to alleviating leg pain and varicose veins. If you have classical orthostatic venous pain (pain in the whole leg when you are standing up and relieved when you are lying down, not just pain limited to some bulging veins) you should be evaluated for other deeper vein problems even though superficial treatment with radiofrequency might be appropriate for you.

How does RadioFrequency work?

Radiofrequency or VNUS works by heating up the blood in the veins to injure the inside of the vein and therefore close the vein by positioning a "closure" catheter in the vein. The catheter is then activated allowing the catheter to touch the wall of the vein from inside to ablate the vein(s) in question. Heating the vein wall causes collagen in the wall to shrink and the vein to close. After the vein is sealed shut, blood then naturally reroutes to healthy veins and symptoms are eased.

Analogy:

vnus3.jpgVeins in the lower leg are like county roads, and in the thigh are like state roads, while veins in the muscle are like state highways and veins in the pelvis and body are like interstate highways. Sometimes the blood is leaving the state highway to get onto a county road through a "perforator" vein.  Radiofrequency is quite effective in closing these "perforator" veins similar to the way we sometimes control traffic.

The VNUS procedure has little or no discomfort associated with it and has a high degree of success, with 95% of veins being permanently closed. If you are suffering the effects of Varicose Veins, Dr. Hovorka at All in Veins in Austin and McAllen Texas  can help you. vnus4.jpg
