Laser Vein Treatment Austin

For Cosmetic Veins:

cosmeticveins2.jpgDr. John Hovorka utilizes a state-of-the-art laser vein treatment at his Austin, Texas clinic, All In Veins. The world renowned CLaCS technique, which stands for Cryo Laser and Cryo Sclerotherapy, was developed at Clinica Miyake, Sao Paulo, Brazil in an innovative effort to creating safer Sclerotherapy. In the past, Sclerotherapy has been associated with a number of unpleasant conditions and adverse effects such as hyperpigmentation, ulcerations, multiple needle punctures and unsatisfactory outcomes. Often techniques including foam sclerotherapy have adverse effects including pain, inflammation of the skin, as well as residual pigmentation. In an effort to create a technique free from unfavorable effects, the CLaCS technique was developed as a modality of treatment that combines using laser energy (light), an allergy-free sclerosant, light, and cold air. Although varicose veins and telangiectasias are clearly visible to the naked eye they are like thousands of branches on a tree.  If these branches or "feeder veins" are not treated then the Sclerotherapy technique will ultimately lead to recurrence.

Diagnosing Cosmetic Veins: ultrasound.jpg

The presence of feeder veins can be identified in three ways. First the decompression test which is a test Dr. Hovorka will perform at the time of your physical examination. Second, adjunctive techniques to visualize  veins such as duplex ultrasound and trans-illumination. Trans-illumination is really just a very bright light.  Even very bright lights can not see much more than a few millimeters beneath the skin. There are areas that are too shallow to be seen by the duplex ultrasound, yet too deep to be seen with the naked eye or with even the very brightest of lights. The solution to finding these veins for treatment is a machine called the Vein Viewer. The Vein Viewer uses a camera to take images that are processed by a computer and then shown on the surface of the skin at 32 frames per second. The Vein Viewer employs harmless and completely painless light technology that processes a digital image directly over the vein, onto the skin, enabling easy detection of feeder veins of you can expect a successful therapy with permanent results.

How Cosmetic Veins are Treated:

sclero.jpgAfter treating the vein vessel with the laser, the veins beginning with the feeder veins are injected with an allergy-free Sclerosant. This process allows the vessel wall to shrink down and even eventually close.  The feeder veins are targeted initially. The laser causes alterations in the local blood flow, making it slower and favoring the action drawn out of the medication (sclerosant), which is then put in the place of the blood, closing the vein. To make this procedure painless, the CLaCS technique utilizes a Zimmer Cyro chiller, a machine which blows frozen air at temperatures as low as -20 degrees Centigrade on the skin, freezing the skin so any possible pain of the laser and Sclerotherapy is not felt.

Why CLaCs?
The CLaCS technique is faster than traditional Sclerotherapy and the combination of using both laser and Sclerotherapy together is a safe procedure that is less painful and more effective technique with fewer side effects. The Laser that targets the vein is non-invasive and emits light pulses that penetrate skin and are absorbed 30 times more by blood than by subcutaneous tissue. This way veins can be obliterated without damaging the skin. An allergy-free Sclerosant named Dextrose is applied as the Sclerosant in 30% of the spots previously treated by laser where the veins are still "opened" after laser treatment. The combination of both Laser and Sclerotherapy is vital because the Sclerosant is boosted by the laser effect on the vessel that was treated moments before. By combining both agents, the treatment is faster and less expensive.
