Vascular Surgeon Austin
John Hovorka, MD FACS, is a highly respected board certified vascular surgeon and founder and Medical Director of All in Veins in Austin and Valley Laser Surgical in McAllen, Texas. Dr. Hovorka is a pioneer in venous disorders dedicated to treating venous disease and finding new and innovative ways to bring relief for those suffering from varicose vein related pain. Dr. Hovorka attended medical school on academic scholarship at the University of Kansas School of Medicine and was voted medical student with the most enthusiasm. After completing a 5 year Surgical Residency program at the University of Missouri in Kansas City, where he was Chief Surgical Resident, Dr. Hovorka worked as a Trauma Surgeon for five years, before starting his first vein practice in 2005. Dr. Hovorka has also performed additional training in Bariatrics, Phlebology, Venous Stenting and Angioplasty, Traumatic Surgery, and Hyperbaric Wound Care Medicine. Dr. Hovorka was the first Surgeon to use smaller laser fibers to catch the small feeder veins to attain greater success when performing laser vein ablations and helped bring a new and improved methods of performing Sclerotherapy to the United States with a procedure called ClaCs technique for cosmetic as well as medically necessary applications for closing the vein.
Abstracts:
Dr. Hovorka has published abstracts and presents talks on Veins and Venous insufficiency with the American College of Phlebology and the International Union of Phlebology (UIP) to other Phlebologists and Vascular Surgeons to share new findings in medicine and new methods to improve patient care. Dr. Hovorka has published and presented to colleagues in both the United States and internationally.knowledge obtained through patient case studies to other Vascular Surgeons and Phlebologists throughout the country.
Board Certification:
Dr. Hovorka is Board Certified in Surgery by the American Board of Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. After board certification became available in Phlebology (the study of veins), Dr. Hovorka was invited to sit for the exam and became the 148th physician in the United States and one of the first Surgeon's in the state of Texas to obtain Board Certification. Understanding that vein problems require a need for specialized training in Wound Care for ulcers and lymphedema (swelling) management, Dr. Hovorka obtained Board Certification in Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine. Dr. Hovorka is a certified Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT), having successfully completed the examinations after many years of experience with vascular ultrasonography. This credential is important due to the critical ultrasound knowledge required to accurately diagnose and treat all vein problems.

Being trained and skilled in minimally invasive surgery, Dr. Hovorka is aware of the numerous safe and effective techniques that give very pleasing results without pain and long down times, which are often the results of traditional surgery.
In his spare time, Dr. Hovorka is a registered Surgeon with the Texas State Boxing Commission and assists as a fight doctor with area boxing and mixed martial arts matches. Dr. Hovorka likes to stay healthy by surfing and mountain biking with his family.
